Fear of falling Ch.9

Fear of falling Ch.9
Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes!!

It was quite a beautiful day, that day when he would start high school. Everything was so lucid that it was impossible for him to deny it was all a dream; no one could remember something quite perfectly awake.

The rubber on his sneakers against the neat marble floors filled the hallways with a loud squeaking sound as he walked around. It was refreshing finally being at school again, as weird as it sounded, he was glad to have people around him and hanging in rooms filled with friends. It would be nice, not being alone for a change…

‘Hey’ someone called, hesitating he looked back to the long corridor but he could not see anyone; which was easy to understand since it was too early for any common student to be there. Probably his sleepy mind was just playing tricks on him.

Even for someone like him who had always been easy-going, the idea of starting over in a new school gave him the tiniest feeling of anxiety. It had been that feeling that had him waking up earlier than usual, and now he was alone in school without a hint in what to do the next twenty minutes when his friends would arrive.

‘Hey!’ The voice called him again.

Once again, he turned around. Nothing.

‘What the hell-?’ He exclaimed in confusion but was cut-off when looking down, he saw a girl raising her eyebrows at him.

Her eyes gave him a strong look, which paralyzed him for a second.

‘Sorry, I didn’t see you there’ He smiled to the stranger.

‘Very original, jerk’ the girl snapped as she pushed a notebook to his chest and gave him a sharp look before storming off.

What had just happened? Moreover, what was up with that girl’s attitude?

He stood there with a confused look on his face, down on his hands there was the notebook, which turned out to be his notebook that he must had accidentally drop.

He breathed in and ran his fingers thru his hair. Something told him it was going to be an…”interesting” first day.

The bell rang and every girl rushed out, the women’s desperation to gossip about the holidays and the “fresh blood” was obvious to anyone, their excitement had filled the air the whole day. As he walked to the door Calvin and Greg walked up to him, he was deeply glad to have his old friends as classmates again.

‘Pretty good day, when the next bell rings we’ll be free’ Greg smiled.

‘Yeah’ Calvin replied ‘we should hang out now, after the soccer try-outs we’ll be busy’ he implied with a wink.

‘Confident much?’ he laughed.

‘Don’t act all modest now, Ryan’ Calvin rolled his eyes ‘You are good and you know it, like all those girls you showed-off to in middle school’

Greg laughed. They were in the hallway now, when Brendon showed up with a guy he’d never seen before.

‘Hey’ He greeted them ‘this is Eddie, we were friends in prep school’ he explained.

‘Hey, I’m Ryan and these are Calvin and Greg’ He introduce himself and the guys, pointing at them with his chin.

‘Brendon told me you guys play soccer, that’s right?’ Eddie asked.

‘Yeah’ Greg answered ‘We were just talking about it’

‘That’s cool, we should have a match someday’ the guy smiled, he seemed nice.

They were still talking in that same spot when he notice a group of girls looking at him, he did normally get some looks because of his height so it wasn’t a big deal; but then, they walked up to them.

‘Hey, would you mind coming with us for a sec?’ A girl asked him after a giggle.

‘Umm’ He gave a confused look to the guys but they just shrugged ‘It’s ok, I guess’ He replied.

‘Thank you!’ another girl smiled.

‘So what’s your name?’ A brown-haired slim girl asked.

‘I’m Ryan’ He answered without a clue of what was going on. Following him and the girls, Calvin, Greg, Brendon and Eddie shared his confusion.

‘So, Ryan’ the first girl to talk to him spoke up again ‘by any chance do you know a girl named Amy Garret?’

‘Uh…’ He thought about it but the name didn’t ring any bells ‘no, sorry’

‘Are you girls trying to hook up Ryan to this Amy girl?’ Brendon butted in.

‘No, no, nothing like that’ the brunette replied shaking her head slightly to the sides ‘You’ll see’

Then, on the other side of the corridor, a group of five girls made their way towards them.

‘Come on Hannah leave me alone!’ One of the girls in the other group whined.

As they got closer, he saw a blonde covering another girl’s eyes and pushing her down the corridor.

‘Don’t be an idiot Amy!’ “Hannah” replied ‘We need you just for a second!’

Just as they met in the middle, the ladies set who must have been “Amy” free. Without wasting a second, the Amy girl turned around facing her friends.

‘You can’t just force me to go somewhere!’ She ranted ‘what the hell is wrong with you!?’

Both groups of girls flat out ignored her. Their eyes had opened up in shock just like their mouths, and they kept looking back and forth to this Amy girl and him.

‘Dude, that’s crazy!’ Calvin mentioned. All girls nodded in agreement and ranted about the “big height difference”.

It did not take long for Amy herself to turn around; and when she did, both of them were caught with mouths open.

‘Oh, you are the jerk from before’ She said, gaining her posture back quite fast. Her eyes showed strength again.

Taking a good look at her, he noticed she was super short (way shorter than people normally seemed to be in his eyes). And with a second glance, ignoring her temper, she was kinda cute…

He shook those thoughts of his head before bending to get a better look of the girl.

‘Hey, don’t get all mad on me shorty’ He replied petting her head.

The strong look in her eyes grew in intensity.

‘A big ego for a big guy’ she snapped ‘Don’t pretend to be all nice now, and don’t touch me gigantic creep’

‘Who are you calling a creep? Midget…’ He blew her off. What the hell was wrong with that girl?

Loud laughter was heard in the hallway, both girls and guys were laughing at them.

‘You guys are like brother and sister’ someone commented.

As everyone cracked up, Amy let out a frustrated breath. He couldn’t help but chuckle.

‘Don’t laugh, giant moron’ she bossed.

Later that day, Hannah and the guys would become friends and so they would all hang out together every day after; later on, all the guys would make it to the soccer team and become closer...

A sudden loud thump woke him up.

“KNOCK” It sounded like someone was about to throw down the door.

‘Open up!’ A loud voice came from outside.

‘Ugh…’ He groaned as he opened his eyes to find himself in the pitch-black bedroom.

Rubbing his eyes and taking a deep breath, he prepared himself to get up from bed. He was normally a morning person but that dream had him wishing to sleep a little longer.

‘Going’ He yelled back.

By the time he opened the door, the puppy was right beside him and moving her tail in excitement.

‘Midget don’t you dare get out’ He whispered to the pup. He remind himself to stop calling the dog that way, he could never let Amy know that the puppy got its name after her.

The pup went back to the living room’s rug and lied there, as if it perfectly understood human language. After looking in the peephole, he opened the door.

‘What took you so long idiot?’ Amy smiled.

‘Shut up or I’ll leave you outside brat’ he greeted her.

Two weeks ago, he had stayed at her place for dinner and her family had been incredibly nice to him, ever since he had become a regular at the Garret’s home. Amy visited him just as often in his place, their mutual company was something they had got used to quite easily.

‘I brought the sequel to the movie we saw the other day’ she announced.

‘Ok, give me a second brat; I’ll go take a bath’

‘Yeah, you should’ She joked before looking down.

‘Shut up’ He replied before leaving the room.

During the next following fifteen minutes, all he could think about was the dream he had earlier that day. He thought about the incredible improvement in their relationship, he remembered Amy asking him for help and resembled the desperate yet strong look in her eyes. That favor she asked had changed everything, more than both of them could imagine.

‘Hey dwarf- ‘he called as he walked in the living room rubbing a towel in his hair but was cut-off when he saw the girl sound asleep in the couch. He rolled his eyes and smiled at the sight, she was just like a little kid. He doubtfully sat next to her but her eyes kept closed and her long lashes immobile. He half smiled at the fact that he still found her cute, just like the first time they met.

Closing his eyes as well, he realized that after all that time and with all the things he had gone thru, that distant memory of a first meeting was very precious to him.
